Job Description:
Velocity Investments is a specialized financial services firm that focuses on acquiring and managing distressed receivables. This role supports litigation and discovery operations by managing case documentation, organizing shared inbox workflows, reviewing discovery responses, and assisting legal partners with strategy, negotiations, and court proceedings. The position also serves as a custodian of records, requiring testimony, document analysis, and coordination of witness appearances while maintaining high organizational and communication standards.
- Assists in managing/organizing busy shared email inboxes and keeping witness and discovery logs current and accurate.
- Quickly recognizes time-sensitivity or elevated risk exposure in Witness/Discovery requests - prioritizes or promptly escalates to management, as appropriate.
- Reviews proposed discovery responses for accuracy and compliance with Velocity standards.
- Aids attorneys with interrogatories and other discovery and document requests; document and track progress of each discovery review request.
- Attends mediation as Velocity Representative and assists counsel in negotiating SIF.
- Gathers account-level media/other relevant file data from a variety of sources.
- Critically reviews account-level media for deficiencies and identifies special-media needs; engages with media team to closely track time-sensitive requests.
- Review and respond to standard requests for a Velocity Witness from the legal network; help analyze cost-benefits of in-person trial/arbitration witness requests.
- Assists legal partners in case strategy and settlement negotiations.
- Testify as Velocity custodian of records in arbitrations, trials, and other court proceedings.
- Maintain current knowledge of Velocity/original creditor record-keeping /other relevant business practices through live training/review of provided guidance materials.
- Assist in maintaining witness appearance calendar.
- Maintain, organize, and archive documents for ongoing and completed matters.
- Travel may be required up to twice monthly (typically 1-3 days/trip)
- Other duties as required.
Skills Required
- Working knowledge of legal collection processes and procedures, i.e., filing and service of suit, motions, discovery, evidence, settlement negotiations, court rules, and procedures, etc.
- Highly organized multi-tasker, able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills along with attention to detail.
- Excellent time management, prioritization, and follow-up/follow-through skills.
- Takes ownership of assigned tasks/projects; shows diligence and accountability.
- Flexibility to adapt effectively to new/changed processes.
- Proficiency in MS Office; generally, technologically adept
