Job Description

Offit Kurman, a growing full-service law firm, seeks an Estate Planning Paralegal to join its New York, NY office as an integral part of the Estate Planning & Administration team. The paralegal will assist multiple attorneys with a variety of duties related to estate planning & administration. The position entails performing a wide range of complex estate administration functions requiring knowledge of estates and trusts, estate planning, investments, Medicaid regulations, as well as a general understanding of probate and tax laws.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Administration of decedents' estates, including the preparation of probate, administration and related Surrogate’s Court filings. Must be adept with e-filing and New York estate administration procedures.
  • Preparation of gift and estate tax returns and software; familiarity with fiduciary accountings, a plus.
  • Preparation of real property deeds and related transfer documents.
  • Communicate directly with sophisticated estate planning and elder law clients.
  • Draft standard estate planning documents (i.e. powers of attorney, wills, and health care directives, etc.).
  • Facilitate trust administration, including assisting with the funding of trusts and related tasks.
  • Preparation of Medicaid applications a plus.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience as a Trusts and Estates Paralegal. Familiarity with elder law and Medicaid is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and written.
  • High level of attention to detail, with excellent organizational and time management abilities in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 2017 or newer (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint), Internet research skills, document management systems, attorney time entry software.
  • Position is in-office to start, with the opportunity to transition to a hybrid schedule after a 90-day review (four days in office, one day remote)
