Job Description

The Attorney General's Office is considered one of the largest law practices in the nation, and as such requires the most innovative and strategic support to ensure the highest quality and quantity litigation work. Under the direction of the Chief, Division of Administrative Services (DAS), the Director, Office of Legal Support Services (OLSS) will provide administrative direction, policy guidance, strategic planning, and oversight of the Department’s legal support services, including Legal Support Operations, Law Library Services, the Case Management Section, and eDiscovery and Litigation Services within DAS. The OLSS Director will initiate and implement new program policies and advise the DAS Chief and Executive management on administrative issues and business practices that impact the Department’s legal support services. In addition, the position will need to examine ongoing issues affecting the sections within OLSS and identify recommendations for solutions, such as analyzing current legal information technology solutions and addressing recruitment challenges for legal support positions. Ultimately, the OLSS Director will be responsible for making decisions on how to best meet the ongoing and ever-changing needs of the Attorney General’s legal staff in order to successfully represent their cases.

Hybrid work options may be available. Occasional travel may be required to the Department's offices.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  1. Experience managing and supervising a large multi-disciplinary professional, technical, and administrative staff.
  2. Experience providing guidance and direction on current and new policies affecting a wide range of legal support services, such as legal research, litigation support software, and staffing.
  3. Knowledge of law office support practices, specifically pertaining to the preparation and processing of legal work for civil, criminal, and administrative law matters.
  4. Knowledge of current trends and challenges in litigation support models, legal technology, legal billing, and legal case management and governance.
  5. Experience supporting organizational change management and related communications, training coordination, and readiness activities.
  6. Ability to manage large-scale and diverse budgets and procurements/contracts, and legal invoicing for multiple funds and programs.
