THE ROLE
Peloton is looking for a results-driven, business-oriented lawyer to be the primary day-to-day attorney for our content teams. The person in this role will report to the VP Legal & Business Affairs, Media, Marketing & Commercial at Peloton. This position requires a thorough understanding of Peloton’s multifaceted business, including its partners, members, and competitors, in order to support the achievement of business objectives.
YOUR DAILY IMPACT AT PELOTON
- Review, negotiate, draft, and advise on a wide variety of content contracts and materials, including instructor & creator shoots; employment, vendor and OAC engagements; studio ops; content syndication & partnerships; class programming & new modality launches; and serving as the lead Legal liaison with marketing & product departments for content-led initiatives
- Work closely with internal clients from assigned business units to support their objectives; provide advice on pricing, deliverables, scope, legal risks and opportunities related to their strategy; lead and collaborate on complex agreement structures, approval processes, and implementation of applicable industry and regulatory requirements
- Demonstrate a strong ability to issue spot sensitive legal and business concerns, including a sense of when to escalate (and not escalate) such matters to internal stakeholders
- Develop and implement best practices and process improvements for various initiatives, including playbook development, client training, and updating templates to address the evolving needs of a growing organization
- Support business in all legal matters that arise from time to time, including policy creation and enforcement, dispute resolution, and litigation support
YOU BRING TO PELOTON
- Experience providing rapid, practical, business-oriented legal/commercial contract evaluation to both internal and external clients
- Strong working knowledge of trademark and copyright law and related rights, including recent AI, privacy and security reforms and proposed regulations
- Experience drafting and negotiating complex creative, sponsorship/partnership, and independent contractor contracts required; familiarity with apparel and general commercial contracts is a plus
- Strong command of global content conventions, systems, and procedures, and the ability to distill complex concepts into "easily understandable terms " for internal clients and counterparts
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an interest in working cross-functionally, and ability to collaborate with all personality types, including Creative, Marketing, Product, Finance and Engineering Teams
- Superb planning and organizational skills, with ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects at once, and to create and implement short and long-term strategies and goals
- Able to work independently with Peloton team members throughout the U.S. and globally, meeting deadlines in the face of fast-moving initiatives
- Outstanding critical thinking skills, demonstrates sound judgement, decisiveness and confidence to make informed decisions that have both legal and business implications
- Adapts quickly to new challenges
- Member in good standing of the NY or comparable State Bar
