What is this career opportunity?
The Montana Tax Appeal Board (MTAB) resolves disputes within an independent tax appeal system for issues relating to valuation and classification of property and other state taxation appeals. The Board is the court of record for tax disputes in Montana and hears appeals from decisions of the 56 county tax appeal boards, primarily involving residential, commercial and agricultural property valuation. MTAB also takes original jurisdiction in all matters involving state income taxes, corporate taxes, severance taxes, centrally assessed property and new industry property, motor fuels taxes, vehicle taxes, and tobacco tax.
The legal secretary position provides legal, administrative and general office support to the three Administrative Law Judges who make up the Board. This position is also the primary point of contact for county tax appeal boards, assists with planning education and training for counties and facilitates open communication lines between MTAB and county boards.
