Job Description

Privia Health seeks a Healthcare Regulatory Counsel to provide support on a wide range of legal matters. This position will work with the other members of the legal team navigating the complex landscape of healthcare laws and regulations. The Regulatory Counsel will have the opportunity to work closely with various internal teams, providing expert legal guidance, developing crucial policies and reviewing key contracts.  The ideal candidate should be agile and comfortable working in a fast-paced remote environment.

Primary Job Duties: 

  • Research and Analysis: Conduct in-depth research and analysis of federal and state healthcare laws, regulations, and sub-regulatory guidance (e.g., Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, Affordable Care Act, state licensing requirements, state self-referral laws and privacy, CMS guidance). Work with legal team members to identify potential state law issues in new markets.

  • Operational Implementation: Assist legal team members and collaborate with operational teams to translate legal requirements into practical, actionable steps for business processes and new initiatives.

  • Policy and Procedure Development: Draft, review, and update internal policies and procedures to ensure ongoing compliance with healthcare regulations.

  • Stakeholder Guidance: Provide timely and accurate legal advice and guidance to internal stakeholders, including executive leadership, compliance, operations, and business teams, on a wide range of healthcare regulatory matters.

  • Contract Review and Negotiation: Review, draft, and negotiate various contracts, including vendor agreements, supervision agreements, and professional service agreements, to ensure compliance with healthcare laws and mitigate legal risks.

  • Risk Mitigation: Identify potential legal risks and develop strategies to mitigate them, proactively advising on best practices.

  • Training and Education: Assist in developing and delivering training programs to internal teams on healthcare regulatory topics.

  • Handle other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications
  • J.D Degree required with active license in good standing

  • At least 3 years engaged in active legal practice with a healthcare practice at a law firm or in-house 

  • Strong understanding of key healthcare statutes and regulations, including but not limited to Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, HIPAA/HITECH, False Claims Act, and state privacy and licensing laws.

  • Demonstrated experience in translating complex legal requirements into practical business solutions.

  • Excellent legal research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly and concisely explain complex legal concepts to non-legal audiences.

  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Ability to maintain a high degree of discretion and confidentiality

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent organization, time management, and problem-solving skills

  • Must comply with HIPAA rules and regulations 

The salary range for this role is $150,000-180,000 in base pay and exclusive of any bonuses or benefits (medical, dental, vision, life, and pet insurance, 401K, paid time off, and other wellness programs).This role is also eligible for an annual bonus targeted at 20% and restricted stock units. The base pay offered will be determined based on relevant factors such as experience, education, and geographic location.
