Job Description

The PA State Employees’ Retirement System (SERS) is seeking a skilled attorney with a passion for public service to join our team as an Attorney 2. In this role, you will perform a variety of legal functions pertaining to business-related contracting issues, investments, and administrative services. Experience with transactional law is a plus! In this role, you will provide legal advice on a wide variety of investment and business administration matters; draft, review, examine, negotiate, and modify a variety of agreements, REIT organizational documents, and other documents proposed to be executed by SERS; review and/or prepare a variety of transaction documents including contracts, amendments, consents, and waivers; and provide counsel on non-investment transactional matters, such as the procurement of goods and services for the agency.

SERS is located in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Situated along the Susquehanna River, Harrisburg is an affordable city in which to live and is located just a few hours from Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, D. C.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5-hour work week, Monday through Friday.
  • Work hours: A work schedule beginning and ending between 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM, inclusive, with a half-hour or one-hour meal period will be considered, depending on operational requirements. The requested schedule may not end prior to 4:00 PM.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to three days per week, depending on operational needs. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania; otherwise, you must work onsite at the work location specified in this job posting.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.
  • Financial Disclosure: The individual appointed to this position will be required to disclose financial information consistent with provisions of the Public Official and Employee Ethics Act and the Governor's Code of Conduct.

Qualifications

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of professional legal experience and graduation from an accredited school of law; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Post Employment Requirement:

  • You must be certified for admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania and must maintain membership on a continuous basis during employment.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must attach a copy of your certificate, proof of completion of the preparatory steps and application to become a member of the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, or your license number and expiration.
  • You must be willing to work in and commute to the Harrisburg, PA, location when onsite work is required.
  • This job title does not require PA residency; however, you will not be eligible to telework if you do not establish an alternate worksite in PA. You must be willing to accept this position knowing these conditions.
  • You must possess satisfactory communication and interpersonal skills.
  • You must be adept at problem-solving and decision-making.
  • You must possess satisfactory job knowledge and technical skills.
  • You must demonstrate satisfactory initiative and motivation.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred

  • One or more years of experience in transactional law
