Job Description
Overview To provide efficient and skilled Paralegal Support Services to the Legal Department. Major Areas of Accountability Reviews legal files to determine issues involved in order to assist attorneys with appropriate action to be taken. Conducts legal research as instructed by the attorneys. Drafts, edits and proofs memorandums of law, initial case analysis reports, appellate briefs and other legal documents in a professional, accurate and timely manner. Assists with file organization and management throughout all phases of litigation. Will index and organize files prior to trial. Drafts answers, interventions, discovery, pretrial statements, motions, exceptions and other pertinent legal documents to proper courts of jurisdictions as instructed by attorneys. Assist with scheduling, calendaring, and maintaining diary hearings, appointments and other significant deadlines for attorneys. Prepare subpoenas for medical records, employment records, income tax return records and any other pertinent file-related records as requested by attorneys. Summarizes depositions as requested by attorneys. Become adept in operating software applications such as Windows, Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), legal case management systems. Ability to learn, adapt, and implement new technology. Become an expert in the paralegal role and willingness to train staff as needed. Performs other duties as assigned by Legal Office Manager. A law school degree may be accepted in lieu of all education and experience requirements. Experience Required Minimum three to five years paralegal experience, preferably in an insurance defense setting. OR Minimum two years of experience as a LWCC Staff Paralegal. Skills Required Excellent written and oral communication skills. Minimum typing speed of 50 words per minute.
