The Legal Assistant – Community Outreach & Clinics supports legal services by coordinating and conducting outreach to community clinics and partner organizations. This role combines traditional legal assistant duties with direct engagement in clinic-based legal services, including client intake, document preparation, and coordination with attorneys and community partners. The position requires strong organizational skills, comfort working directly with the public, and the ability to operate in fast-paced, community-focused environments.
Key Responsibilities
Community Outreach & Clinic Support
- Coordinate, schedule, and staff legal clinics at community-based organizations, courts, and partner agencies
- Serve as a primary point of contact for clinic partners and community stakeholders
- Conduct outreach to promote legal clinics and services, including distributing materials and communicating with partner organizations
- Provide on-site and remote support during legal clinics
Client Intake & Assistance
- Conduct client intake and eligibility screening in person and remotely
- Explain legal processes, forms, and next steps in clear, plain languageAssist clients with completing legal forms and assembling required documentation
- Maintain professionalism and sensitivity when working with vulnerable populations
Legal & Administrative Support
- Prepare, review, and organize legal documents and case files
- Enter and maintain accurate client and case data in case management systems
- Assist attorneys and supervising staff with follow-up tasks after clinics
- Track clinic outcomes, attendance, and required reporting data
Collaboration & Compliance
- Work closely with attorneys, paralegals, and outreach staff to ensure smooth clinic operations
- Follow confidentiality, data security, and ethical guidelines at all times
- Support program evaluation and continuous improvement efforts
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in a legal assistant, legal support, or legal services role
- Experience working with the public, preferably in clinics, legal aid, or community-based settings
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic data entry systems
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently in off-site settings
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual in English and Spanish Required.
- Experience with legal clinics, self-help centers, or public interest law
- Familiarity with court forms, filing procedures, and basic legal terminology
- Experience working with low-income or underserved communities
Work Environment & Schedule
- Combination of office, remote, and in-person clinic work
- Regular local travel to clinics and outreach sites required
- Evening or weekend clinics may be required based on program needs
Physical & Other Requirements
- Ability to travel locally and transport clinic materials
- Ability to sit, stand, and interact with clients for extended periods during clinics
- $55,000/year
