How Is This Role Important to Our Work?


The Litigation Paralegal provides support to the organization to manage anticipated or actual disputes including litigation, arbitration, government investigation or inquiry, and the like. Accountabilities for this position include conducting legal research, preparing memoranda, preparing and reviewing legal filings and correspondence, facilitating discovery and fact-gathering, fact analysis, and improving and documenting internal processes. This role may also assist other areas of the legal team as needed.


A Day in the Life:

  • Set up and maintain case files, including organizing and filing correspondence, pleadings, data, and documents, and docketing and ensuring compliance with deadlines.
  • Assist with reporting cases to insurance carriers, providing updates, and responding to requests for information.
  • Gather facts and documents needed to analyze and pursue/defend disputes, including building relationships with business clients who can act as resources for such information.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare and review pleadings and correspondence.
  • Compile and analyze information for attorney review and consideration.
  • Prepare litigation reports/decks and review with attorneys and other stakeholders.
  • Facilitate legal holds and discovery by obtaining and producing information and documents in a forensically sound manner, supporting custodian interviews, reviewing documents, working with business and technical teams to understand company systems and policies regarding electronic information, coordinating with e-discovery vendors, and following up on hold- and discovery-related tasks that may stretch out over years.
  • Maintain cutting-edge knowledge of e-discovery and establish e-discovery tools and processes to help ensure the organization maintains its preservation obligations.
  • Work within federal and state electronic filing systems to access needed information.
  • Work on responses to subpoenas, civil investigative demands, requests for information, and the like.
  • Support witness preparation.
  • Manage process for filing class action claims.
  • Contribute to and/or lead process and systems improvements for the Legal Department.
  • Provide other support as the Legal Department dictates including filing/organizing files and maintaining tracking tools.
  • Work on special projects as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Nice to Have:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Healthcare/health insurance experience.
  • In-house paralegal experience.
  • Experience with complex litigation such as cross-jurisdictional issues, multi-party matters, class actions, and mass torts.
  • Experience with Microsoft eDiscovery tools.

Required Skills and Experiences:

  • Paralegal certificate.
  • 7+ years of experience as a litigation paralegal.
  • Proven experience and interest in electronic discovery.
  • Maturity to be able to exercise sound judgment, work independently and effectively manage a wide variety of responsibilities.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Strong project management skills with ability to manage a variety of projects simultaneously, with complex and fluctuating deadlines, and to work across functional organizations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent interpersonal and relationship skills; ability to work with individuals at all levels within an organization. Candidates may be asked for a writing sample.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and to identify matters requiring escalation or special attention.
  • Proven self-starter who values process and is well-organized in order to drive process.
  • Proven ability to work in a client-focused, deadline driven environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and superior reading comprehension.
  • Proven willingness and eagerness to take on new and challenging projects with interest and enthusiasm for learning new subjects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.), PDF, Visio, etc.

Role Designation:

Hybrid Remote

Role designation definition: Teleworking is working full time remote. Hybrid is a combination of working onsite and remotely.  Onsite is full-time onsite.
