The Department of Justice, Office of Attorney General Liz Murrill, is seeking applications for a Human Resources Generalist in the Administrative Services Division. As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Human Resources Generalist A-C, depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s). Salary offered will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate selected.  

The position will be domiciled in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, East Baton Rouge Parish.  Offers of employment are contingent upon satisfactory background check, drug testing, and reference verifications.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field is preferred; 
  • Two or more years' professional level experience; 
  • Preference may be given to candidates with professional level experience in State Government Human Resources in the following areas:
    1. LaGov HCM
    2. Organizational Management
    3. Talent Acquisition/Recruitment

Examples of Work

The duties of the Human Resources Generalist shall include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Process the full range of personnel actions needed to complete appointments, merit increases, promotions, transfers, separations, etc. via the LaGov/ HCM system;
  • Compute routine pay changes;
  • Provide general explanation of employee benefit programs and advise employees of various options available to State employees. Review benefits documents for accuracy and completion; forward to appropriate parties;
  • Provide on-boarding and out-processing documents to employees while providing guidance and a general overview of each document; follows up to ensure new employee timely completes all required forms;
  • Manage the full cycle of the recruiting process including, but not limited to, extending offers of employment, pre-employment background checks, fingerprinting, and drug-screenings;
  • Generate various personnel reports from the LaGov HCM System in order to verify accuracy of data;
  • Verify employee prior state service by contacting previous employers to ensure accurate adjusted leave service dates are processed via LaGov system;
  • Process all verification of employment (VOE) for active and inactive employees;
  • Process the Federal Employment Eligibility Verification (I-9) via the E-Verify system;
  • Coordinate the LADOJ New Hire Orientation program in its entirety;
  • Process and maintain the LADOJ Volunteer/Intern Programs;
  • Review files on a routine basis to ensure that current job descriptions are maintained for all positions;
  • Collect and compile statistical data required to prepare reports;
  • Provide assistance to agency personnel on routine or limited Federal and State laws, and department policies and procedures within assigned areas;
  • Post vacancy announcements via the LaCareers system including, but not limited to, prepare vacancy announcements, forward eligible applicants to the hiring manager, key all hire authorizations within 30 days, and archive exam plans.
