The Deputy District Attorney I is an entry level attorney; responsibilities include managing a county court docket and developing trial skills; acts as a professional representative of the Office of the District Attorney; follows office policies and procedures; seeks guidance, as necessary; demonstrates a strong work ethic and sound ethical judgment; works well with staff, victims, witnesses, co-workers, and court staff; treats co-workers, the public, defendants, and defense attorneys with respect; maintains the highest level of professionalism; at all times maintains the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and ethics.
Under FLSA guidelines this position is exempt.
Salary Range - $96,480-$102,288- Examples of Duties
Examples of Duties
1. Prepares and tries cases involving misdemeanor and petty offenses
2. Assists the Chief Deputy in the intake of misdemeanor and traffic cases
3. Explains and interprets statutes and status of various cases to the general public, and determines the adequacy of complaints presented by the public
4. Assists district court and juvenile court deputies in the prosecution of routine felony matters
5. Periodically serves on call to provide legal advice to law enforcement agencies and answer immediate questions from the general public
6. Attorneys will be required, on occasion, to respond to crime scenes at all hours and weekends
7. Candidates will be expected to have a strong work ethic and demonstrate good teamwork
8. Performs related work, as required
9. May be reassigned during emergency situations- Required Qualifications

• Working knowledge of all Colorado statutes that the District Attorney is mandated to enforce
• Knowledge of the rules of procedure, evidence and judicial system
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees, court officials, law enforcement, the public and other government agencies
