As a Legal Administrative Specialist at the GS-0901-9/11, you will be part of Retirement Services, Office of Personnel Management. If selected, you will be responsible for processing claims, reviews, and program evaluations intended to maintain the integrity of retirement benefits arising under the Federal retirement systems and enunciation of program policy.
Duties

Adjudicating and/or making determinations of eligibility and entitlement on cases of retirement annuities and survivor benefits.

Analyzing records and imaged documents to make decisions that may involve any feature of eligibility for retirement benefits or for health and life insurance benefits related to retirement.

Acting on allegations of fraud or impropriety concerning the receipt of payments or benefits under retirement programs.

Responding to inquiries from Congressional sources, agency and union officials, retirees, and survivors.

Assisting employees of a higher grade in the preparation of regulation packages, bill reports drafting of instructional issuances or similar material.

Providing advisory and information services to agencies through formally established channels on legislative changes.

For the GS 9/11:
For the GS-09: You must have one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the private or public sector) performing the following:
1) Providing and explaining programs, rules and regulations to customers;
2) Addressing routine customer inquiries that require knowledge of Federal retirement and benefit programs; and
3) Answering customer inquiries that require making requested adjustments to annuitant records.

OR
Have a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or LL.B or J.D. (You must submit a copy your transcripts.)
OR
Have a combination of experience and education that meets the minimum qualification requirements. (You must submit a copy of your transcripts)
For the GS-11: You must have one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the private or public sector) performing the following:
1) Knowledge of Federal retirement and benefit programs in order to address complicated customers inquiries via phone, email and written correspondence;
2) Reviewing cases of unusual technical difficulty; and
3) Reviewing and approving recommendations and decisions regarding annuitant records made by other specialists. Note: Your resume must fully support this experience.
OR
Have a Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D or LL.M.(You must submit a copy your transcripts.)
OR
Have combination of experience and education with qualifies for the GS-11 level. (You must submit a copy your transcripts.)
Applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-7 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. One year at the GS-9 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level.
