
About Us:
The State Medical Board of Ohio issues licenses and oversees the practice of allopathic physicians (MD), osteopathic physicians (DO), podiatric physicians (DPM), massage therapists (LMT), and various other allied health care professionals under the authority of the Medical Practice Act, Chapter 4731, Ohio Revised Code (ORC). The Medical Board continues to regulate naprapaths and mechanotherapists licensed by the Board before March 1992.
The Medical Board also regulates Physician Assistants, ORC Chapter 4730, Dietitians, ORC Chapter 4759, Anesthesiologist Assistants, ORC Chapter 4760, Respiratory Care Professionals, ORC Chapter 4761, Acupuncture, ORC Chapter 4762, ORC, Radiologist Assistants, ORC Chapter 4774, and Genetic Counselors, ORC Chapter 4778.
The Medical Board’s regulatory responsibilities include investigating complaints against applicants and licensees and taking disciplinary action against those who violate the public health and safety standards set by the General Assembly and the Medical Board.

The State Medical Board of Ohio is seeking an experienced licensed attorney to join our Enforcement unit. This position serves under the general direction of the Deputy Director of Enforcement and Chief Enforcement Attorney. The ideal candidate should possess comprehensive knowledge of both substantive and procedural law, while also demonstrating excellent teamwork abilities, organizational skills, and a commitment to prioritizing customer needs.
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
- Assists with resolving complex legal issues with a focus on cases where the respondent’s medical care fell below the standard of care.
- Serves as a lead attorney responsible for reviewing all proposed settlements for the appropriateness and accuracy of terms, tracking their progress from authority to ratification by the Board, and presenting the proposed pre-cite settlements to the Board.
- Reviews cases and makes decisions as to readiness for formal disciplinary proceedings. Makes recommendations to Medical Board’s Secretary and Supervising Member as to whether formal action is supportable and/or to pursue other resolution.
- Prepares cases for citation. Contacts, interviews and deposes witnesses. Contacts and interviews expert medical witnesses.
- Reviews and approves enforcement subpoenas.
- Meets and coordinates matters with appropriate federal, state and local enforcement agencies (e.g. Drug Enforcement Administration, Pharmacy Board, local prosecutors).
- Researches variety of legal issues including most complex legal concerns and assists in resolution, negotiation, settlement and/or litigation of legal matters.
- Provides work direction to secretaries, paralegals, other attorneys and investigators for assigned cases.
- Adheres to customer service standards when interacting with internal/external customers. Proactively identifies customer needs and works to resolve customer complaints. Develops and sustains productive customer relationships.
- Performs miscellaneous enforcement duties, as assigned, to facilitate operation efficiency such as processing documents produced by Medical Board staff during peak work periods, assists Executive Director or his/her designee in absence of other enforcement personnel.
This position is unclassified and overtime exempt.
Salary- $14 - $37.53
Admission to Ohio Bar pursuant to Section 4705.01 of Revised Code; 12 mos. exp. as licensed attorney; 6 mos. exp. in employee training & development.
