For over 50 years, Bet Tzedek has set the standard for innovation and excellence in poverty law. The agency seeks a mission-driven Finance Grants Manager who is part of the Management Team and collaborates closely with the Chief Financial Officer. To accomplish this, the Finance Grants Manager will focus on coordinating the Finance functions that intersect with the Institutional Giving, Individual Giving, and Legal Program Departments.
This position is eligible for Bet Tzedek Legal Services’ hybrid/remote workplace designation. While the primary workplace is Bet Tzedek’s offices, at the discretion of the immediate supervisor, the employee may be permitted to work remotely or may be required to work in other locations depending on workload/business obligations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Develop and implement procedures and processes to maximize billable hours and identify ways to expand spending on grants.
- Manage spend down of time-limited one-time-only funding.
- Source suppliers and service providers as needed for special project funding not related to time billing.
- Provide supervision of Grants Accountants and overall grant accounting functions.
- Work with Legal Department staff on grant budgets and annual agency budget program expense projections.
- Coordinate with Controller and Institutional and Individual Giving teams, for preparation grant budgets and RFPs.
- Oversee monthly invoicing for public and private grant reporting.
- Review public and private grant trackers to compare awarded grants against budgeted.
- Liaise with Finance, Institutional Giving, and Directing Attorneys to monitor fiscal deliverables of grants.
- Oversight of grant audits, collaborating with Controller.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by CEO and CFO.

- Strong background in finance, grants management, internal controls, analysis, forecasting and reporting, and audit and compliance standards.
- Ability to skillfully collect, synthesize, and analyze complex and diverse data sets.

- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including actively listening and seeking clarification when needed, providing clear responses to questions, and writing clearly and informatively.

- Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness with a strong attention to detail.
- Take initiative while simultaneously knowing when it is appropriate to ask for help when needed.
- BA/BS in Finance, CPA preferred.
- 7+ years of executive accounting experience, non-profit accounting preferred.
- Excellent command of GAAP procedures and FASB standards required.
- A strong understanding of finance and accounting practices, with grants management experience.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities and ability and skills to succeed in a teamwork environment.
- Proficiency in Blackbaud accounting software or other similar software platforms.
- Essential computer skills and knowledge of Adobe, MS Excel, MS Word, and MS Outlook.
- Demonstrates ability to lead, motivate and partner with staff required.
