Job Description

  • Presents cases to judges; represents defendants at court proceedings; conducts trials of criminal and misdemeanor cases.
  • Negotiates plea bargains and bond reductions in criminal and juvenile cases.
  • Reviews all criminal cases; conducts legal research.
  • Reads and reviews offense reports and probable cause statements.
  • Consults with and provides legal advice to appropriate County departments; responds to inquiries from the public, resolves and/or refers to proper person; provides counsel to law enforcement agencies and personnel as required.
  • Prepares arrest and search warrants for law enforcement officers.
  • Meets and assists with victims, witnesses, defendants and other outside agencies;
  • Assists and/or instructs other employees with their duties; assigns, plans and reviews work of other employees.
  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Doctor of Jurisprudence degree.  
  • One year job related experience.
  • Computer and organizational skills.
  • Verbal and written communication and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees and elected officials.
  • Trial advocacy, legal research and library skills.
  • Licensed by Supreme Court of Texas.

SALARY RANGE: $82,534.40 - $103,168.00 annually based on qualifications

CLOSING DATE:  Upon filling position
