Under the general direction of the Criminal Records Applications Unit (CRAU) Information Technology Supervisor II (IT Sup) II, the Information Technology Specialist (ITS) I is a member of the mission critical Systems Analysis team that maintains and monitors the cohesiveness between the technology and program clients. Accordingly, the ITS I is responsible to sustain effective communications with all stakeholders and team members, possesses keen analytical skills, and demonstrates the ability to problem solve. These attributes are essential for the successful navigation through the business analysis, systems analysis, product development, systems maintenance, and project management intersecting processes.

The unit’s system portfolio includes the Automated Criminal History System (ACHS) and it’s interfaces. The ITS I works closely with program clients, unit developers, database administrators and consultants. The ITS I performs systems analysis reviews and clarifications in regards to business and functional requirements. In addition, the ITS I confirms technical requirements with other ITS I and ITS II’s who are responsible for software engineering and architecture. The ITS I collaborates with CRAU’s developers, administrators and consultants to facilitate the completion of as-is system architecture, database schema, programming code, testing certifications, and disaster recovery documents. The ITS I works with the same team to document and recommend to-be technical solutions. The ITS I is the central Customer Relationship Manager (CRM) and monitors and processes requests submitted to CRAU’s intake process. The CRM systems include a unit email in-box, a JIRA application, and an IT service and change request management system. The incumbent may participate on projects as a systems analyst, technology coordinator, or project coordinator.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • Knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC)
  • Knowledge of Test Methodologies (ex: Agile, Waterfall etc...)
  • Extensive experience with developing test scripts from requirements and test execution
  • Knowledge of test management tools, defect tracking tools
  • Strong experience in UI test automation
  • Good knowledge and understanding of Java and JavaScript
  • Experience with Git and Bitbucket for version control
  • Hands-on experience with web automation using Selenium WebDriver and WebDriverIO
  • Create, execute, and maintain automated test scripts for various testing needs, including integration, regression, and smoke testing
  • Proficient in using SQL for querying test data in SQL Server and Oracle databases
  • Experience in performance testing using tools such as JMeter and BlazeMeter to design, execute, and analyze load and stress tests for applications
  • Experience with accessibility testing to evaluate and ensure compliance with accessibility standards
  • Experience in API testing using Postman and Swagger
  • Ability to take initiative and manage multiple assignments
  • Ability to meet critical deadlines with changing priorities
  • Ability to maintain effective relationships with team members and customers
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team and independently

ALTERNATE RANGE CRITERIA 484

Established 1/31/18, Pay Letters 18-04 and 18-05

Range A. This range shall apply to persons who do not meet the criteria for Range B or Range C.

Range B. This range shall apply to persons who meet the Minimum Qualifications for the classification and who have also completed two years of satisfactory additional experience performing duties equivalent to or higher than an Information Technology Specialist I.

Range C. This range shall apply to persons who meet the Minimum Qualifications for the classification and who have also completed four years of satisfactory additional experience performing duties equivalent to or higher than an Information Technology Specialist I.:

When the requirements for the criteria are met and upon recommendation of the appointing power, the employee shall receive a rate under the provisions of California Code of Regulations, title 2, section 599.676. Upon movement to Range C, the employee shall receive a rate under the provisions of California Code of Regulations, title 2, section 599.674 shall apply.
