The South Florida Water Management District is a regional governmental agency that oversees the water resources in the southern half of the state, covering 16 counties from Orlando to the Florida Keys and serving a population of over 9 million residents. It is the largest of the state's five water management districts. Our mission is to safeguard and restore South Florida's water resources and ecosystems, protect our communities from flooding, and meet the region's water needs while connecting with the public and stakeholders.
The District’s Office of Counsel is seeking to hire a Staff Attorney with the background and experience to represent the District in a wide variety of sophisticated real estate transactions, including those involving public infrastructure and environmental projects. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience negotiating and drafting contracts and closing documents, leases, easements, rights of entry, and Purchase and Sale Agreements; reviewing title, survey, and zoning reports; and conducting other due diligence. Experience with government related real estate matters, including work with state or local government entities such as counties, municipalities, or special districts, is strongly preferred. Superior analytical and writing skills, with a keen eye for detail, are essential regardless of experience level. The ability to work in a collaborative, diverse environment, as well as independently and with minimal supervision, is also required.
This position may be filled at the Secondary Level of Staff Attorney - Real Estate.
Employment Guidelines:
Senior Attorney - Real Estate: A Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and 6+ years of legal experience is required. Experience in real estate litigation is a plus. This position requires occasional travel throughout the District’s jurisdiction.
Staff Attorney - Real Estate: A Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and 4+ years of legal experience is required. Experience in real estate litigation is a plus. This position requires occasional travel throughout the District’s jurisdiction.
License:
Active member of the Florida Bar.
Valid State of Florida Driver's License.
Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Physical Requirements/ Working Environment:
Due to the District's response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may at times, be required to provide support before, during and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies, depending on assigned emergency response role.
