The Mass Tort Legal Assistant provides administrative and case management support across multiple mass tort dockets. This role requires heavy client communication, strong organizational skills, technological proficiency, and the ability to manage competing priorities while adhering to court deadlines and firm procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support attorneys and paralegals in managing mass tort dockets governed by court orders and case management plans.
- Assist with case action planning to ensure compliance with federal and state court deadlines.
- Manage calendaring across multiple dockets, tracking deadlines and required filings.
- Assist with preparation and filing of documents in state and federal courts.
- Maintain inventory of filings and provide monthly updates across all active dockets.
- Utilize case management software to manage matters and review dashboards and reports to understand docket status at both macro and micro levels.
- Support discovery processes, including document collection, organization, and tracking.
- Communicate regularly with clients, medical providers, court personnel, and opposing counsel via phone and email.
- Provide heavy phone support with strong, professional communication and customer service skills.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure strict adherence to firm policies and procedures.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ATTRIBUTES:
- Customer service experience
- Typing - 40+ wpm
- Enjoys working in a fast-paced environment
- Extremely organized
- Quick learner/intuitive
- Ethically responsible with an understanding of the legal and ethical obligations of the profession
- Capable of adhering to firm policies and procedures
PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- High School Graduate/ GED
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, with an ability to become familiar with firm-specific programs and software.
- Mac Proficient, including macOS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
