Responsibilities
Staff Counsel for CURE Auto Insurance has openings resulting from our launch and expansion into the Michigan market. We have a unique opportunity for an experienced coverage defense attorney with 5+ years of civil litigation experience in handling these types of claims to serve within our staff counsel operation. The ideal candidate’s experience should include taking and defending depositions, negotiation proficiency, and established experience successfully trying cases. PIP insurance defense background is mandatory and experience in the handling of Coverage matters, BI, UM and auto physical damage coverage matters is preferred. Staff Counsel will be responsible for handling files from inception through trial and appeal, if necessary. All candidates must possess excellent academic credentials, outstanding written and oral advocacy skills and strong software/technological skills including competency in Word, Outlook and Westlaw. Competitive candidates will be well-organized, detail-oriented, and be able to independently manage a caseload.
Located in the Metro Detroit area, we provide a congenial, team-oriented professional work environment with skilled support staff, competitive salary and exceptional benefits. We currently operate under a hybrid schedule with attorneys coming into the office 2 to 3 days a week.
Qualifications
We are looking for an Attorney, Coverage Defense who has the following experience:
5+ years of experience handling first and/or third party personal auto insurance cases and coverage matters from inception to conclusion including arguing motions in limine and trials through verdict
Proven track record of being able to proficiently manage a full pending of case assignments
Extensive knowledge of local and state discovery rules, trial procedures, and applicable substantive law, particularly relating to coverage matters including rescission and order of priority
Experience presenting and cross-examining lay and expert witnesses
Experience directing support staff on clerical and administrative matters related to lawsuit handling
Experience working in a paperless electronic environment
Strong automation/technological skills for lawsuit handling and courtroom presentation
Additional Information:
Must have a law degree from an A.B.A. accredited law school and excellent academic credentials
Must have an active law license to practice in Michigan and a member in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan

Operating Model: Hybrid flexible work environment
Schedule: Full-Time; Mondays – Fridays, 8:30am – 5:00pm
Compensation: $115,000-$130,000; Please provide salary requirements with your application.
