The Attorney General is looking for a highly motivated individual to serve as a Paralegal in the Energy & Environment Bureau (EEB). EEB is comprised of three divisions—the Energy and Ratepayer Advocacy Division, the Environmental Protection Division, and the Environmental Crimes Strike Force—along with EEB attorneys focused on climate change and appellate litigation. EEB oversees the office’s affirmative environmental and energy litigation brought on behalf of the Commonwealth in federal court, as well as the office’s advocacy on environmental and energy matters before federal agencies.
Primary Duties: The Paralegal will provide critical administrative and legal support in litigation, legal projects, and administrative advocacy, and assist EEB management with case tracking and reporting. This is a fast-paced, high-profile work environment that requires the ability to work on a range of complex matters, often under time pressure.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Conducting legal research, fact gathering, and preparing substantive reports and research memoranda.
- Drafting discovery documents, preparing pleadings, and managing e-discovery processes.
- Organizing and maintaining paper and electronic case files.
- Assisting with the preparation and filing of briefs and other pleadings by attorneys including creating tables, advanced cite-checking, proof-reading, and compiling addenda and appendices.
- Assisting attorneys in preparing for hearings, meetings, or oral arguments.
- Communicating with clients, attorneys, witnesses, court clerk’s offices, and members of the public.
- Managing contact lists and calendars, including the scheduling of critical dates, deadlines, and case-related appointments.
- Completing forms, maintaining and updating case management systems, and assisting with preparation of EEB reports.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
- At least one (1) year of paralegal or investigative work experience, preferred.
- Demonstrated interest or experience with environmental or energy law and litigation at any level, from a state trial court to the U.S. Supreme Court, preferred.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Analytical skills, sound judgment, and excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain relationships with staff and communicate respectfully with members of the public.
- Ability to quickly learn Microsoft Office programs, case management software, legal research tools including Westlaw.

Position Type: Full-time/Non-Exempt
Our current hybrid model includes some remote workdays for most positions. On in-office days, employees are required to report to one of our designated office locations, either in Boston or at a regional office.
Salary: $53,762
