Primarily responsible for assisting attorneys throughout the Legal Department on various legal activities and administering and supporting legal operations through management of legal technology applications. Drafts routine legal documents and reports under direct attorney supervision. Assists in researching legal and factual issues and administering Legal Department activities.
LITIGATION SUPPORT:
- Assist with research, document management and document drafting in various legal areas including commercial, employment, bankruptcy, class actions, environmental, and trademark, with ongoing opportunities for growth in subject matter and substance of projects based on ability
- Implement and manage legal holds
- Assist with document collection, review and organization
- Update insurers, claims administrators, and internal finance department members as needed
- Direct third-party vendor forensic analysis of devices
- Help maintain financial records including reserves and class action recoveries
- Create and maintain litigation document databases as needed
- Responsible for all MMSEA (Medicare, Medicaid and SCHIP Extension Act) reporting of settlements in personal injury matters
LITIGATION TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT
- Provide end-user support for document and matter management systems
- Manage litigation databases
- Provide technology onboarding support for new employees
- Manage annual document retention clean-up for electronic files
- Act as liaison with Business Technical Services for legal technology projects
ASBESTOS LITIGATION MANAGEMENT
- Work with National Coordinating Counsel and in-house head of litigation to maintain asbestos files; review deposition summaries and pre-trial reports, monitor and record settlements and dismissals; assist with discovery inquiries
- Log matter updates in master case management system
- Prepare quarterly asbestos update and other correspondence to insurance carriers
- Assist with review and maintenance of master document production database
- Bachelor’s degree and/or paralegal certificate
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience as a litigation paralegal, or a similar support role in a law firm or corporate legal department
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- 10+ years of related experience preferred.
- Must be knowledgeable and skilled in electronic litigation database, document and matter management systems
- Excellent organizational skills
- High level proficiency using Microsoft Office and Adobe applications required, including Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Experience with legal operations, specifically iManage and iPro software applications, a plus.
