Assistant Counsel – Real Estate

Position Overview


A real estate company is seeking an Assistant Counsel to join its legal team. This role will support the company’s real estate portfolio by advising internal teams on leasing matters, reviewing contracts, and assisting with legal issues related to property operations and transactions. The position offers the opportunity to work closely with leasing, acquisitions, asset management, and property management professionals in a fast-moving real estate environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal guidance on commercial real estate matters affecting the company’s portfolio.

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of agreements related to property leasing, operations, and business relationships.

  • Support leasing teams by helping structure agreements and ensuring legal documentation accurately reflects negotiated terms.

  • Review operational contracts such as vendor and service agreements tied to property management activities.

  • Assist internal teams in interpreting lease obligations, rights, and compliance requirements.

  • Participate in legal review and due diligence for property acquisitions and dispositions.

  • Coordinate with outside counsel when specialized legal matters or disputes arise.

  • Help maintain internal legal documentation and contribute to the organization of legal records and reporting.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.

  • Several years of experience practicing real estate law, either within a law firm or an in-house legal department.

  • Familiarity with commercial real estate transactions, leasing, and property operations.

  • Strong contract drafting and negotiation abilities.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with non-legal business partners.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

  • Practical, business-oriented approach to legal problem solving.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: $140,000–$155,000, plus performance-based bonus potential.
