The Department of Corrections (DOC) is searching for a Hearing Examiner that is dedicated to ensuring disciplinary processes address prohibited behavior by issuing sanctions for misconduct and violations at our State Correctional Institutions (SCI). As a Hearing Examiner, you will be conducting administrative fact-finding hearings for inmates charged with violating prison rules and regulations. You will be responsible for reviewing evidence, determining witness relevance, interviewing witnesses, determining guilt or innocence, and imposing sanctions. This role requires a thorough knowledge of administrative directives and regulations as well as sound judgement to implement decisions that are fundamentally fair and consistent with the established disciplinary policies. Work involves recording all relevant testimony, explaining the appeal process to inmates, and communicating with institution staff to schedule hearings.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • The selected candidate will report to two different facilities.
    • Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at SCI Fayette, 50 Overlook Drive, La Belle, PA
    • Tuesday and Thursdays at SCI Greene location, 169 Progress Drive, Waynesburg, PA
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

  • $67,736 - $102,905/year
Qualifications

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience in legal work, social work, education, security, or administrative work that involves interviewing, and analysis and interpretation of data, one year of which must be in an adult correctional institution; and a bachelor's degree; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of experience in working in an adult correctional institution.

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
