The Associate Director of Legal Support Services will collaborate closely with the Director to ensure the smooth operation and optimization of our legal administrative support functions. This position will be responsible for providing leadership, guidance, and support to the legal administrative support services team while assisting in the development and implementation of departmental strategies. Essential job functions include: 

  • Oversee the daily operations of legal administrative support, including Practice Support Teams, Administrative Resource Team, Resource Center and other Business Professionals.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve workflow efficiency, task tracking, and accountability within the legal administrative teams.
  • Partner with IT and external vendors to enhance and maintain task management systems, ensuring optimal utilization of legal support technologies such as BigHand and other workflow tools.
  • Work closely with practice area leaders and onsite supervisors to ensure consistent support across all locations and teams.
  • Establish and enforce best practices for legal administrative services, including training programs for managers and staff to enhance performance and consistency.
  • Monitor and assess team productivity, reallocating resources as necessary to meet the firm’s needs and address workload imbalances.
  • Collaborate with HR to develop career development programs and performance management strategies for legal administrative staff.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement solutions to enhance service delivery and operational effectiveness.
  • Serve as a liaison between legal administrative staff and attorneys, addressing concerns, resolving conflicts, and fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.
  • Ensure compliance with firm policies, confidentiality requirements, and legal industry regulations.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or combination of education and commensurate work experience required.
  • 8-10 years’ progressive leadership and management experience within a legal support services department.
  • Substantial experience leading company‐wide initiatives within a multi‐office setting required.
  • Strong understanding of legal processes, procedures, and technology.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Commitment to maintaining high ethical standards and confidentiality.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Employees are entitled to compensation commensurate with skill and experience. The exact compensation will vary based on skills, experience, location, and other factors permitted by law. The expected compensation ranges for this position in various states and jurisdictions are as follows:

  • State of California: $111,000 - $211,000
  • State of Colorado: $102,000 - $182,000
  • State of Illinois: $100,000 - $194,000
  • State of Maryland: $107,000 - $163,000
  • State of Massachusetts: $111,000 - $211,000
  • State of Minnesota: $111,000 - $183,000
  • Washington, D.C.: $143,000 - $210,000

The above salaries do not include a discretionary bonus, however bonus opportunities are non-guaranteed, and are dependent upon individual and firm performance.
