Job Description

Summary

Responsible for serving civil processes, writs, and warrants, investigating criminal law violations and filing cases with the Justice Court and District Attorney. Assists Chief Deputy with the supervision of field deputies. Takes command of the Constables office when the Constable and Chief Deputy are off or out of the county. Acts as field training officer for new deputies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Executes civil process, writs and warrants.
2. Assists the District Attorney's Office and Probation Department in arrests.
3. Patrols area and maintains awareness of Precinct for crime prevention.
4. Provides enforcement at civil standbys.
5. Performs refuse and traffic enforcement.
6. Assists all law enforcement agencies.
7. Collects executions on judgments.
8. Provides security for courthouse and acts as bailiff for court.
9. Prepares all court documents for return after execution.
10. Assists deputies with Constables sales.
11. Acts as Chief Deputy in his/her absence.
12. Acts as Constable in absence of both Chief Deputy and Constable.
13. Responds to difficult calls in the field.
14. Acts as field supervisor.
15. Corrects deputies' behaviors in the field.
16. Acts as training officer in the field.
17. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Associate's degree or 60 hours college and three (3) years law enforcement experience or; a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and one (1) year law enforcement experience or; five (5) years law enforcement experience; or any equivalent combination based on 30 college hours equaling one (1) year of experience. Intermediate license or higher from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. Working knowledge of the Texas Rules of Court, Property Code, Civil Procedure, Penal Code, Field Training Officer and rules of Tarrant County.

Physical Demands and Work Environment & Other Requirements

While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb, lift, push, pull, run, kneel and twist the upper body. Use of a vehicle is required to perform the essential job functions. Incumbent must be able to respond to emergency situations which may include the use of physical force.

Tarrant County will conduct background checks on new hires that will include a criminal background check related to convictions and deferred adjudications in the past ten years and may include credit reports, motor vehicle records, employment records and educational attainment. A conviction or deferred adjudication is not an automatic bar to employment. Each case is considered individually.
