Job Description

Foster, Swift, Collins & Smith P.C. is accepting applications for a full time Civil Defense Litigation attorney for the Southfield office. This office has a growing insurance defense, premises liability, transportation, and general commercial litigation practice. 
This is an exceptional opportunity for attorneys to be part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment where they will be able to take ownership of their cases and hone their litigation skills. Requirements

  Position responsibilities include:

  • Manage files through all stages of litigation      
  • Draft pleadings, motions and responses, and legal correspondence
  • Handle all aspects of discovery including taking depositions as well as drafting and responding to interrogatories and requests to produce 
  • Represent clients in court proceedings, including motion hearings, mediations, settlement conferences, trials, and evidentiary hearings
  • Work closely with clients including writing regular status reports and communicating complex information (written and oral) to stakeholders in an accessible way
  • Collaborate with other attorneys, paralegals and support staff

Required qualifications include:

  • 4+ years litigation experience including drafting pleadings, motion practice, depositions, and case management
  • JD from an accredited law school
  • Admitted to State Bar of Michigan and be in good standing 
  • Excellent persuasive writing, legal research, communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Strong professional judgment, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Strong work ethic with record of being proactive and resourceful
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage a busy case load, work under pressure, meet deadlines and pay attention to detail
