Trusts & Estates Legal Assistant
DeWitt LLP is seeking an experienced Trusts & Estates or Real Estate and Business Legal Assistant to join our growing team in our Madison office. This position provides high-level support to attorneys in our Estate Planning and Trust Administration practice or able to assist with our Real Estate and Business practice and plays a key role in delivering exceptional service to our clients.
Position Summary
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and experienced in supporting attorneys in estate planning, probate, and trust administration matters. This role requires strong technical skills, professionalism, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced legal environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft estate planning documents, including wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, powers of attorney, marital property agreements, and related documents
- Draft real estate and business documents, including deeds, real estate transfer returns, offers to purchase and purchase and sale documents
- Prepare probate and trust administration filings and supporting documents
- Coordinate asset transfers and beneficiary designations
- Assist with preparation and organization of estate and trust accountings
- Maintain and manage client files (electronic and physical)
- Communicate with clients, financial institutions, and courts in a professional manner
- Manage attorney calendars, deadlines, and scheduling
- Ensure accuracy and compliance with firm procedures and applicable regulations
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in trusts and estates or estate planning support
- Strong knowledge of probate and trust administration procedures or business and real estate transactions
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with legal document management systems preferred
- Excellent proofreading, grammar, and organizational skills
- High degree of discretion in handling confidential client information
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
