Job Description

Akerman is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Legal Administrative Assistant to support attorneys across Litigation, Commercial Real Estate, and Labor & Employment practices in our Chicago office.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in complex civil litigation and transactional matters and will thrive in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of complex litigation experience, including familiarity with Illinois and federal rules of civil procedure;
  • Experience supporting Labor & Employment attorneys, including preparation of pleadings, correspondence, and administrative filings;
  • Some transactional experience, primarily in the areas of commercial real estate and labor & employment matters;
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word (Excel and PowerPoint preferred);
  • Experience with electronic filing in state and federal courts and legal calendaring systems;
  • Excellent typing, proofreading, document comparison, TOC/TOA preparation, and organizational skills;
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with attorneys, clients, and staff;
  • Meticulous attention to detail, discretion, and confidentiality; and
  • Ability to work independently, manage a heavy caseload, and multitask in a fast‑paced environment

Responsibilities:

  • Preparing, formatting, proofreading, and filing litigation and labor & employment documents;
  • Maintaining case files and managing deadlines for a heavy litigation caseload;
  • Assisting with commercial real estate transactions, including closing documents and correspondence;
  • Drafting correspondence, electronic form letters, and other legal documents;
  • Coordinating calendars, tracking deadlines, and supporting attorneys across multiple practice areas; and
  • Other administrative and legal support duties as assigned.

Job Type:  Full-Time; Monday - Friday (Hybrid) (ability to work extended hours when necessary)

Salary Range:  $75,000 - $100,000 (Actual salary is based on experience and job qualifications.) 

Bonus:  Discretionary holiday bonus
