Job Description

The General Counsel (GC) of the Department of Defense is appointed by the President with Senate approval and is the chief legal officer of the DoD. The GC advises the Secretary of Defense on legal matters and oversees legal policy and services in the DoD. Additionally, the GC serves as Director of the Defense Legal Services Agency. The GC reports to the Deputy GC for Acquisition and Logistics, providing support to the Office of Strategic Capital (OSC).

Duties Incumbents typical work assignments may include the following: Provide legal counsel to shape organizational investment strategy. Manage the legal facets of investment operations. Advises on legal and policy matters, interpreting pertinent legislation and regulations. Provide legal oversight across diverse financing products to include corporate finance, asset-based lending, project finance, and loan guarantees Salary

Qualifications Specialized Experience: To qualify at the GS-15, your resume must describe at least one year of experience that demonstrates the competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Experience refers to any paid or unpaid experience, including volunteer work and Military service, that would be considered equivalent to work normally performed at the next lower grade level in the federal service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as experience reviewing legal and policy matters to provide advise to organizational leaders, managing comprehensive legal strategies, and assisting with the management of the legal facets of investment operations. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Candidates must describe how they meet the qualifying experience and/or selective placement factor(s) within the body of their resume.
