Job Description

Paralegal position sought for a boutique law firm primarily representing families and children with disabilities to obtain appropriate educational services.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Prepare legal correspondence and other documents for attorneys.
  • Organize and maintain documents in a paper and electronic filing system.
  • Utilize Client Intake software to manage and return new client calls.
  • Manage new client onboarding, including drafting initial documents, obtaining appropriate records and setting up computer-based files.
  • Obtain, scan, review, name and organize client education, medical records and files utilizing office naming and organization protocols.
  • Meet with clients, attorneys, and other professionals to talk about case details either in person or via e-meeting.
  • File pleadings with court, administrative tribunals and school system.
  • Help prepare for trial by organizing exhibits and assisting with other tasks as needed.
  • Prepare complaints, briefs, closing statements, pleadings, appeals, and other legal documents.
  • Investigate facts and laws of cases and search public records and other resources to prepare cases and determine causes of action.
  • Direct and coordinate law office activity, including delivery of subpoenas.
  • Handle all discovery items and organize in electronic files.
  • Gather and analyze statutes, decisions, and legal articles, codes, documents, and other data.
  • Call on witnesses to testify at hearings.
  • Keeping law library up to date by monitoring legal volumes.
  • Track and record hours in Legal Management Software (and HRIS if required) on a daily basis
  • Hybrid work options available after successful completion of probationary period and training.

Requirements/Skills:

  • Associates degree in Paralegal Studies (18 semester hours) Required

  • Bachelors degree preferred

  • At least four years related experience in a law office

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent proofreading and document formatting skills.

  • Attention to detail is essential.

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

  • Excellent sales and customer service skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat. Clio software experience a plus.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks.
