Social Work Practicum
Social Work practicum students are in important part of LSEM’s holistic, interdisciplinary service delivery team. The opportunities and experiences available to practicum students vary depending on student interests and the needs of the specific programs or departments that are seeking to fill positions. Practicum activities may include –

Social Work Practicum
Social Work practicum students are in important part of LSEM’s holistic, interdisciplinary service delivery team. The opportunities and experiences available to practicum students vary depending on student interests and the needs of the specific programs or departments that are seeking to fill positions. Practicum activities may include –
- Client intake, assessment, and interviewing;
- Case management and service navigation;
- Crisis intervention and safety planning;
- Hearing/trial preparation and courtroom support;
- Client- and community-level advocacy;
- Community networking, outreach, and coalition building;
- Educational presentations to staff, community partners, and clients;
- Policy research and analysis;
- Needs assessment and program evaluation;
- Grant research, writing, and reporting;
- Resource development; and
- Much, much more…
Available Positions
LSEM is seeking to hire practicum students for the positions in the following programs/departments:
LSEM is seeking to hire practicum students for the positions in the following programs/departments:
- Housing Law Program (HLP) – The Housing Law Program helps low-income renters to overcome housing instability and avoid homelessness. HLP provides legal assistance and social work support to individuals and families facing eviction, loss of federal housing assistance, poor living conditions, housing discrimination, and other housing issues.
- Lasting Solutions – Lasting Solutions assists survivors of domestic and sexual violence with legal representation, support services, and access to community resources. Lasting Solutions team of attorneys, social workers, and paralegals helps survivors to leave abusive relationships and achieve stability, safety, and self-sufficiency.
- Legal Advocacy for Adults with Mental Illness (LAAMI) – LAAMI helps people living with or at-risk of developing mental illness address legal issues so they are better able to concentrate on their mental health and wellness. Services, which include legal and social work assistance, are available to St. Louis City residents who are age 18 or older.
- Rural Outreach – LSEM’s operates rural outreach offices in Union and Hannibal, Missouri. These offices provide a full range of civil legal services including assistance with family law matters; public benefits cases; consumer law issues and debtor/creditor problems; special education needs, landlord-tenant and housing issues concerns; and other general legal needs.
- Youth and Family Advocacy Program (YFAP) – YFAP assists unaccompanied youth and families with children who are currently experiencing homelessness. YFAP provides legal assistance, supportive social work case management, and educational workshops aimed at helping youth and families access permanent housing and achieve self-sufficiency.
