
Job Summary: The Paralegal’s duties include performing a variety of legal-related clerical tasks and other written and verbal communication with client population in support of attorneys, inclusive of all activities required for service delivery within the scope of the contract/program (as defined by funders).
Schedule: This is a 21 hour per week position which consists of 3 days per week (either Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday - No Friday hours). Daily hours can be either 8am-4pm, 8:30am-4:30pm, 9am-5pm (or some variation of those hours).
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
- Demonstrated commitment or strong interest in public interest law or social justice;
- Able to maintain confidentiality of HIV/AIDS clients as well as client information in general;
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to communicate and interact well with clients from disadvantage backgrounds and variety of demographics regarding information that is often personal or sensitive in nature;
- Conduct client outreach in person and through telephonic and written communication;
- Able to issue-spot in order to determine client eligibility or to provide client referrals;
- Conduct client intakes;
- Prepare written correspondence to clients with attention to detail;
- Communicate with clients regularly on behalf of attorneys, or for program needs, in a professional manner;
- Procure lab reports and other data from medical providers, case managers, clients, or others;
- Perform general clerical duties, including data entry and filing, with strong attention to detail;
- Maintain accurate documentation, progress notes, and data tools both physically and electronically in a timely manner;
- At the direction and under the supervision of project attorney and/or staff attorney, draft documents, conduct research and case related outreach;
- Able to travel to client homes and other agency locations as needed;
- Attend funder trainings, online and in person, as required;
- Able to prioritize and manage time efficiently;
- Able to work closely in congenial manner with other departmental staff and supervisors and share duties as necessary;
- Perform other program tasks as determined by Program Director
Experience and Education:
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree preferred; High School diploma or GED required;
- At least 2 years of law office or related office or equivalent work required;
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) and Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive, Meet) required;
- Able to learn and become proficient in agency and funder specific software required
