The mission of the District Attorney’s Office is to keep the community safe and to make the criminal justice system better through the fair and ethical prosecution of criminal offenders, while seeking justice for victims of crime.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

To perform complex technical legal duties within the District Attorney’s office and to work in support of the District Attorney’s office mission to protect the community and make the criminal justice system better. 

Process requests for Colorado Open Records Act (CORA) and Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act (CCJRA), including detailed case review, redaction of sensitive content using Adobe Acrobat Pro, specialized media redaction software, and digitization of physical and electronic materials.


Examples of Duties for Success


  • Requires redaction of sensitive case materials—such as those related to sexual assaults, homicides, juvenile matters, and other confidential criminal investigations. Exceptional attention to detail, discretion, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality. 
  • Provide coverage for receptionist by answering office phones during lunches, breaks, and absences. Assist callers by providing information and addressing inquiries related to District Attorney’s Office operations.
  • Prepare, compose, review, and file a variety of documents including motions, pleadings, memoranda, correspondence, and warrant applications. Confirm timely filing of pleadings, motions and briefs. 
  • Ensure all procedures are followed and relevant legal documents are prepared.
  • Develop a working relationship with court clerks for the purpose of filing cases and quality assurance.
  • Review cases for essential witnesses and coordinate service of subpoenas.
  • Maintain confidential records, and process requests for information according to District Attorney’s Office policies.  Prepare reports and draft correspondence as needed.
  • Work assignments are performed within an established framework under general instructions but require simultaneous coordination of assigned functions or projects in various stages of completion.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned, including the digitization of paper files and multimedia materials. 

To be successful, our candidate should have the following knowledge, skill, and abilities:

  • Knowledge of legal terminology and legal documentation formats sufficient to be able to read, interpret, and prepare legal documents.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Strong work ethic and communication skills.

  • Strong commitment to working with a team and demonstrated ability to work effectively with other employees, supervisors, and the public.

  • Ability to work with attorneys and provide a high-quality work product to assist them in successfully performance of their responsibilities in prosecuting cases.

  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures sufficient to be able to organize and maintain files, records, and schedules and to obtain and/or relay information and process documents in a timely manner.

  • Skill in examining documents for correctness, completeness, and accuracy.

  • Skill in prioritizing, coordinating and scheduling work to allow for efficient and effective completion of work assignments.

  • Must have the ability to work in a standard office environment with a basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs (Word, Excel, Outlook), Adobe Pro and its tools, and the ability to learn and master internal District Attorney legal software such as ACTION; experience with Evidence.com, is preferred.

Qualifications for Success

  • Three (3) to five (5) years of legal support experience in a legal office or any equivalent combination of experience or education that satisfy the requirements of the job.
  • Type 60-70 w.p.m. with accuracy.
  • Primarily sedentary physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 40 pounds; occasional lifting, carrying, walking, and standing; frequent hand/eye coordination to operate computer keyboard and office equipment; vision for reading, recording and interpreting information; speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and members of the public.
