
Job Description
This position is located in the U.S. International Trade Commission, Office of Tariff Affairs & Trade Agreements. The incumbent is responsible for providing legal advice to the Commission and staff concerning customs, tariff, and other laws affecting international trade, focusing on international and domestic tariff nomenclature, trade agreement matters, and analysis of all legal and non-legal changes required to ensure the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) is up-to-date and accurate.
Duties Provides legal expertise with respect to all of the legal authorities under which the Commission operates in the area of tariffs, trade agreements implementation and trade investigatory functions as they relate to tariffs administration and trade agreements compliance. Assists in the preparation, for the U.S. Trade Representative, of Presidential Proclamations and Executive Orders relating to trade agreements, the operation of the Generalized System of Preferences, import relief granted pursuant to tariff and trade statutes, and other Executive modifications of the tariff schedules. Provides legal expertise in the development and implementation of domestic statistical programs, under section 484(f) of the Tariff Act of 1930. Acts as technical advisor to U.S. delegations to meetings of international organizations concerned with facilitating international trade; e.g., the World Customs Organization (WCO) and the World Trade Organization (WTO). Provides legal expertise in the development and implementation international trade nomenclatures, under section 608(c) of the Trade Act of 1974. Salary- $142,488 - $195,200/year
