Position Description

Exciting things are happening with Pennington County wages starting in January 2025, with many of our positions receiving hourly wage increases.  

Position Objective:
The role of the Victim's Assistance Director is to work with victims of violent crimes in order to assist the State's Attorney's Office in the prosecution of related crimes.

Position Functions

Essential Functions:

  • Work effectively with victims and witnesses of the criminal justice system.
  • Day-to-day operation of the Victim's Assistance Office.
  • Supervision of staff.
  • Preparation of the VOCA grant application and supplemental reports.
  • Maintain the statistical data necessary for quarterly reporting.
  • Provide crisis counseling for victims and witnesses.
  • Advocate, refer and coordinate services for victims and witnesses within and outside the criminal justice system.
  • Explain the criminal justice procedure to victims.
  • Accompanying victims and witnesses to the courtroom when possible.
  • Prepare restitution requests on behalf of victims. 
  • Keep current on trends and legislative changes within the scope of crime victimization.
  • Provide community education.
  • Represent the program on various boards and committees.
  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget.

Qualifications

Experience and/or Education Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work or related field.
  • Two years of experience in related field; supervisory experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to frequently sit, walk, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, reach and lift, push or pull and manual dexterity is needed to type, write, use a calculator, and answer telephone.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • The ability to talk and hear via the telephone and through face-to-face communication is needed.

Additional Information

Working Environment:

  • Most work is performed indoors in an office where noise and interruptions often occur. 
  • Extra hours may be required to meet project deadlines.
  • Some travel may be required for training and meetings.

Salary
  • $30.32 - $34.76/hour
