Join our dynamic and growing Legal team supporting Assurant’s Global Automotive business!

This role serves as Senior Counsel for Assurant’s Global Automotive line—an innovative, fast‑evolving business operating in 21+ countries and partnering with some of the world’s largest organizations. Assurant Global Automotive delivers vehicle protection services and other auto‑related risk‑transfer products through a wide range of distribution channels.

As Senior Counsel, you will act as a strategic business legal advisor to the Global Automotive business, supporting high‑impact and game‑changing initiatives, enabling sustainable growth, and proactively managing legal risk. You will collaborate with a team of attorneys and professionals to provide general and commercial legal guidance across strategic initiatives, product development, financial structures, commercial negotiations, commercial dispute management, and regulatory/ compliance matters.

This is a remote role, with a strong preference for candidates based in Atlanta, GA or Miami, FL area. Exceptional candidates in other locations will also be considered.

What will my duties and responsibilities be in this job?

Draft and Negotiate Contracts and Legal Documents (60%) 

  • Draft, negotiate, revise, and edit agreements with third‑party partners—including dealerships, OEMs, agencies, TPAs, and service providers—to support evolving business and legal needs.

  • Lead negotiations related to:
    • Dealership, agency, and TPA administration agreements
    • Profit‑participation program agreements
    • Dealer loan and retro programs
    • Reinsurance treaties and related trust agreements

  • Assess risks associated with contract provisions and provide alternative language to support business objectives and evolving operational practices.

Advice and Counsel (25%) 

  • Apply understanding of business strategies, objectives, and initiatives to identify potential legal risks.

  • Counsel business leaders on the implications of those risks and recommend actions to avoid or minimize exposure, consistent with Assurant’s compliance philosophies.

Research and Documentation (10%) 

  • Provide legal advice regarding applicable laws and regulations, including analysis of emerging legislation and its impact on business practices.

  • Review contract terms and conditions to advise on the rights and obligations of all parties.

Strategic Partnerships & Initiatives (5%)

  • Participate in cross‑functional teams involved in the design, review, and implementation of strategic projects, including the development of new products and services.

What will my duties and responsibilities be in this job?

  • Juris Doctor (JD) required

  • Minimum of 6 years of legal experience in a law firm or corporate law department.

  • Preferred knowledge of Automotive F&I service contracts and ancillary programs, relevant laws and regulations, and industry developments

  • Deep experience with - service contract products (home warranty, mobile protection, consumer goods), insurance, or other regulated industries will also be considered

  • Experience drafting and negotiating complex contracts

  • Active license to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction

  • Ability to analyze complex legal and regulatory issues and recommend appropriate, defensible actions

  • Ability to manage a broad range of issues while delivering high‑quality client service under pressure

  • Highly autonomous and self‑motivated, with sound judgment and ability to manage competing priorities

  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters professionally

  • Strong executive presence, interpersonal skills, and excellent writing and speaking abilities

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to build a trusted, collaborative work environment

What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?

  • Ability to apply comprehensive legal knowledge to complex tasks and assignments

  • Strong fact evaluation, legal research, and statutory/case‑law interpretation skills

  • Ability to recommend and defend courses of action aligned with business and enterprise goals

  • Accounting/Finance/Reinsurance/Risk Management experience or education

  • Consistent demonstration of ethical conduct and adherence to Assurant’s Code of Ethics and the Canons of Professional Responsibility

How much should I expect to travel?

Ability to travel as necessary, up to 10%

Pay Range:

$122,400.00 - $204,400.00

Any posted pay range considers a wide range of compensation factors, including candidate background, experience and work location, while also allowing for salary growth within the position.
