Under general supervision, the Litigation Counsel plays a crucial role in the legal process by thoroughly investigating, reviewing and assessing claims and legal cases to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The incumbent conducts legal research and coaches junior team members. Assignments are broad in nature, usually requiring originality and ingenuity. The position works closely with attorneys and other legal professionals to support the successful resolution of claims and litigation matters.Job Description:
Key Responsibilities:
• Analyze and assist junior team members with legal claims and cases to determine their validity and potential for resolution through litigation or alternative dispute resolution methods; consult senior team members as needed
• Examine legal documents, contracts, evidence, and related materials to identify key issues, facts, and legal arguments
• Conduct research on applicable laws, regulations, and precedents to provide valuable insights and recommendations to legal teams
• Ensure that all litigation activities and strategies comply with relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies
• Prepare and assist junior team members with comprehensive reports summarizing findings, assessments, and recommendations for further action, providing clear and concise information to attorneys and management
• Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and other legal professionals to discuss case strategies and provide expertise on litigation matters
• Assist in coordinating witness interviews, depositions, and testimony, ensuring that all necessary documentation and information are prepared
• Oversee the management and organization of case files, evidence, and exhibits, maintaining accurate records and ensuring document retention compliance
• Provide support during trial proceedings, including, but not limited to, organizing exhibits, witnesses, and assisting in courtroom activities as needed
• Remain updated on changes in relevant laws and regulations and engage in ongoing professional development to enhance litigation examiner skills
• Facilitate the investigation of accidents and losses, including, but not limited to, the assignment of local counsel and other support vendors to determine the exposure
• Participate in a rotating on-call program to provide support outside of regular business hours
• Responsibilities may require travel on short notice to assist in the investigation of accidents and losses
• Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited Law School with Less than 1 year of managing claims, litigation, transportation, or relevant experience, and/or military equivalent. Licensed to practice law (and in good standing) in at least one jurisdiction
AND Demonstration of the following skills and abilities through education, certifications, military, or other experiences:
- Ability to process information with high levels of accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with competing deadlines
- Job requires employee to travel
- Willingness to adhere to an on-call schedule
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1+ years practicing civil litigation and have experience with taking depositions, attending mediations, arguing at hearings
- Have experience with well-written complaint, answer or brief
- Significant background with large volume claims
- Admission to the Bar in a recognized State
- Ability to form strong arguments and defend a position professionally
- Ability to maintain professionalism while dealing with difficult individuals
- Ability to make independent, time-sensitive decisions
- Ability to work both individually and as part of a team
- Experience working in claims
- Ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas through various mediums
- Ability to work with minimal direction
- Strong knowledge of legal research and analysis
- Previous experience in litigation support or a similar legal role
- Proficiency in using legal research tools and software
- Knowledge of e-discovery tools and processes
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion

Compensation:
Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include skills, education, experience, geography, and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position may be eligible for annual bonus and incentives based on profitability or volumes in accordance with the terms of the Company’s bonus and incentive plans, as applicable and in effect from time to time.
