Description

The Litigation and Claims Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing claims and litigation across multiple disciplines, which may include general and professional liability, commercial auto, cyber, property, and crime claims. Under limited direction, this role is responsible for working closely with internal teams, outside counsel, insurers, and stakeholders to ensure effective claim handling, risk mitigation, and resolution. This role is also responsible for educating LCS community leadership around mitigation of current and prevention of future claims.

The Role: 

  • Works with insurers, third-party claims administrators, brokers, and others to ensure that claim investigations, reserving, settlements and litigation are handled appropriately and in a timely manner within established best practices.
  • Assists and oversees legal counsel on claims involving mediations, arbitrations, government investigations and witness preparation.
  • Trains and instructs field and internal staff on proper post-incident claims management practices including, incident/claim reporting criteria, incident investigation, evidence preservation, responding to request for medical information, subpoenas or Notices of Intent, and how to best respond to difficult and sensitive complaints.
  • Acts as a resource to local community leadership in assessing the severity of and appropriate response to incidents/losses/claims, including how-to best preserve evidence as well as address requests for e-discovery.
  • Responsible for oversight and monitoring of claim reserving and settlement authorizations being handled and recorded by the third-party administrators as well as by property casualty insurance carriers.
  • Schedule and manage claim review meetings with both the third-party administrators and the local leadership members from the various locations.
  • Review internal investigations and attorney representations; as well as provide timely and appropriate advice, as needed.
  • Assist with review of policies and procedures, and data management.
  • Provide direction to staff regarding claim filing, claim mitigation and incident investigation.
  • Act as a resource for education, research, on-boarding new communities, and ad hoc reports.
  • Analyze claim data for trends and comparisons.
  • Provide training to staff as appropriate on topics related to risk mitigation efforts of corporate and employment related exposures.
  • Timely update contact information of both community leaders and claims adjusters with the appropriate insurance carriers and the third-party administrator.
  • Perform other job duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience. 
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in claims management, litigation, or insurance-related legal matters.
  • Experience working with TPAs, insurers, and outside counsel.
  • Excellent negotiation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong analytical abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple claims and litigation matters in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Law degree (JD) preferred
  • Experience in a corporate risk management, insurance, or legal environment preferred
  • Familiarity with claims management software and litigation tracking tools preferred.

Travel Frequency: 0-10% 

Estimated Salary Range: $96,000 - $120,000
