The primary responsibilities of the Attorney include working with the Federal Superfund and Construction Section to administer and enforce the Federal Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) to remediate the release of hazardous substances. The successful candidate will be able to navigate and apply the complex environmental regulations associated with Superfund law. Case assignments are legally and technically complex, requiring investigation, research, and the coordination of technical facts and legal analysis. The work includes developing relationships with our federal partners at the Environmental Protection Agency, with the goal to cleanup contamination in Montana to protect human health and the environment. The successful candidate will work with a team of environmental scientists, managers, and public outreach specialists to implement the successful cleanup of contaminated sites.

Qualifications include Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school and must be admitted, or have the ability to be admitted, to practice law in Montana and federal district courts. Experience in environmental law is preferred.

This position is based in Helena and has the option of hybrid (telework and in-office) work.
