JOB TITLE: Trust and Estate Paralegal OFFICE LOCATION: Pittsburgh DEPARTMENT: Transactional REPORTS TO: Transactional Paralegal Manager FLSA STATUS: Full-time/Non-Exempt POSITION SUMMARY: The Trust and Estates Paralegal researches Pennsylvania estate planning, trust, estate and probate law, drafts legal documents including estate planning documents, handles trust and estate administration, provides client consultations and manages administrative tasks on behalf of the supervising attorney. The Trust and Estates Paralegal will also draft and file accountings as well as death and fiduciary tax returns. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinate probate court filings and recordings, including research and familiarity with local rules and probate court Prepare probate administration paperwork, including administration accounts, court petitions, orders, deeds, certifications, etc. Coordinate post-death non-probate administration Communicate with clients and professional advisors relating to routine acts of estate administration Prepare Gift Tax, Estate Tax, and Fiduciary income tax returns. Input financial data to prepare and file accountings Work with clients’ financial advisors on proper titling of accounts. Prepare basic Estate Planning documents. Manage Estate Planning process through document signings. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED: Candidate must have excellent communication skills both written and verbal Strong attention to detail, organizational skills and effective time management Self-motivated, flexible, with exceptional follow-through skills Proficient in Microsoft Office suite Capable of independently managing multiple projects EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: 5+ years of experience working as a trust and estate paralegal with minimal supervision High school diploma or GED – Bachelors degree or paralegal certificate preferred Experience in Pennsylvania probate administration Knowledge of estate planning documents and concepts Experience with OneSource Estate and Trust, and CCH ProSystems platform a plus Must know how to prepare gift tax, estate tax, and fiduciary income tax returns Experience in local probate administration and with professional service vendors helpful Self-motivated, flexible, with exceptional follow-through skills ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Individual in this position will provide additional assistance and support as directed by their supervisor. Candidate must be flexible and able to work in the office at a minimum 2-3 times a week. PAY TYPE: HOURLY COMPENSATION: The pay for this position will be determined based on relevant skills, experience, education, external market data, internal equity, and other job-related factors. The anticipated pay range for this role is between $90k - $105k annually. Saul Ewing follows a hybrid work schedule. Candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of one of our office locations.
