Description

Our Firm is seeking an experienced, entrepreneurial minded and driven attorney to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will work in close partnership with an experienced law partner who plans to transfer his current client relationships to this attorney in the next three years. This role will focus heavily on trucking, construction, product liability and insurance litigation and contributing to the overall success of the practice. This is a premier opportunity for an attorney who is adept at handling a large caseload and familiar with all aspects of the trial process, particularly drafting pleadings, motions, depositions, expert discovery, and working toward a resolution. Your years of experience will also help coach our newer associates toward a similar route for success.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage current book of business in support of Member, with an eye towards taking charge of the client portfolio with the lawyer’s transition. 
  • Anticipate, prepare for, and attend trials, mediation, and arbitration on behalf of clients.
  • Complete legal research and prepare motions, pleadings, and briefs.
  • Prepare witnesses and experts.
  • Argue motions in court on behalf of clients during legal proceedings.
  • Stay updated on changing applicable laws and statutes on the local, state, and federal levels.
  • Mentor lower-level attorneys in proper conflict resolution techniques.
  • The ideal candidate is able to change gears quickly, think on your feet, and make smart decisions. You also need to be detail-oriented and willing to go the extra mile to get the job done right the first time.

Working Conditions

Normal professional office setting. Evening and/or weekend work. In State travel will be required.


Typical Physical Needs

Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping and stretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports. May need to climb stairs and lift up to 30 lbs.

Requirements

Qualifications & Prior Experience:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active bar membership in Alabama.
  • Minimum of 10 years, with a high preference for 15+ years, of experience practicing trucking, construction and insurance litigation.
  • Proven track record of success in client development and retention.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and mentor others.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Must be able to participate in all aspects of the firm's professional activities, including client intake, trial preparation, etc.
  • Must be very familiar with state and federal court procedures, forms, deadlines, filing requirements and portals.
  • Must record case time and expenses contemporaneously.
  • Must be punctual and able to abide by agreed-to office hours.
  • Must have heightened attention to detail and understanding and meeting deadlines, without compromising efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Must have great research skills.
  • Must have the technical knowhow of Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc., and Adobe, and file management software.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written), professional demeanor and presentation, both in person and virtually.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • High ethical standards observing confidentiality of client matters at all times.
