The City of Bend is currently accepting applications for one (1) temporary, full-time Municipal Court Clerk in the Municipal Court. This opportunity is a non-represented and FLSA non-exempt (overtime eligible) position. Selection will be made at the Court Clerk I or Court Clerk II, as defined below, based on the successful candidate's relevant work experience and qualifications.
The duration of this temporary position is expected to be up to 12 months.
An eligibility list will be created from this recruitment to be utilized for future positions at various levels and departments. The eligibility list will be valid for up to six (6) months.

Position SummaryCourt Clerk I
This class assists in ensuring the integrity of the City's Municipal Court records by performing a variety of clerical and administrative support duties and extensive face-to-face and telephonic customer service. (Entry level).
Court Clerk II
This class ensures the integrity of the City's Municipal Court records by performing a variety of clerical and administrative support duties including processing court files/cases, case research, payment plan reviews, and maintaining security and custody of court records; provides extensive face-to-face and telephonic information; and handles large sums of money daily. (Intermediate level).

Duties and Responsibilities
The individual in this position is expected to engage in the following work-related activities.Court Clerk I
- Performs various clerical duties utilizing standard office equipment, to include: screening incoming calls; taking and transmitting messages; distributing mail; filing; making photocopies; performing data entry; typing; and word processing.
- Provides customer service to the general public and other agencies by responding to inquiries and requests for information, explaining policies and procedures, communicating fines, and/or providing other applicable information; checks in defendants, witnesses, Attorneys, and police officers for court procedures.
- Performs a variety of bookkeeping activities, which includes: receiving and processing fine, bail, penalty assessments, fees, and other related payments; balancing accounts; issuing receipts for payments; posting and transferring funds; processing refunds.
- Processes court information, files, and cases, which includes: preparing, processing, composing, and proofreading a variety of court documents; organizing and maintaining court trial calendar; coordinating court appearances; arranging for interpreter services; entering information into databases; completing abstracts for DMV and court records; and/or, performing other related activities.
- Prepares the courtroom for hearings and proceedings.
- Reviews and monitors on-going case files, which includes: identifying appropriate forms to be completed or received; monitoring case status; preparing letters to defendants; tracking tickler file; re-issuing citations; processing dispositions and trial notices; and/or, performing other related activities.
- Complies with safety requirements of the position and actively promotes safe work practices.
- In an emergency event or an officially declared State of Emergency, responds as directed to ensure the restoration of essential public services, facilities, and infrastructure.
- Performs related duties as necessary to achieve the objectives of the position.
Court Clerk II- Processes court information, files, and cases, which includes: preparing, processing, composing, and proofreading a variety of court documents; organizing and maintaining court trial calendar; coordinating court appearances; arranging for interpreter services; entering information into databases; completing abstracts for DMV and court records; and/or, performing other related activities.
- Reviews and monitors on-going case files, which includes: identifying appropriate forms to be completed or received; monitoring case status; preparing letters to defendants; tracking tickler file; re-issuing suspensions; processing dispositions and trial notices; and/or, performing other related activities.
- Provides customer service to the general public and other agencies by responding to inquiries and requests for information, explaining policies and procedures, communicating fines, providing fine reductions based on Judge's matrix formula, and/or providing other applicable information; checks in defendants, witnesses, attorneys, and police officers for court procedures.
- Performs a variety of bookkeeping activities, which includes: receiving and processing fine, bonds, penalty assessments, fees, collections, and other related payments; balancing accounts; issuing receipts for payments; posting and transferring funds; processing refunds.

Ability Requirements
The following capabilities are required to perform the essential functions of this position.- Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
- Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
- Incumbents may be subjected to noises, environmental disturbances and customers who are hostile, threatening and volatile.
Education, Experience, Certifications and/or Licenses
The following are the qualifications for this position.
Court Clerk I Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
- One year of specialized or technical training beyond high school in basic court procedures, policies, terminology and regulations
- Or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
- Current and valid Driver's license per City policies outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- CJIS certification within three (3) weeks of hire.
Court Clerk II Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
- One year of specialized or technical training beyond high school in basic court procedures, policies, terminology and regulations
- Three years of general office and customer service experience and computer experience.
- At least one year of basic accounting or bookkeeping experience
- Or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
- Current and valid Driver's license per City policies outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- CJIS certification within three (3) weeks of hire.
- LEDS certification within three (3) months of hire.
