The Director of Business Development-Business Litigation leads strategic and operational business development for the firm’s Business Litigation Department. The Director plays a key role in driving the firm’s revenue, market, and business growth. This role works closely with practice department and practice group leaders, practice group directors, senior management and other partners, leaders, and key stakeholders to develop and implement business development and marketing initiatives in alignment with overall firm goals and objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develops a deep understanding of the skillsets, client portfolio, and differentiators of the firm's practices.
Studies competitors and reports on competitor developments; studies clients and reports on relevant client and client industry developments.
Works with practice leaders, practice directors, key stakeholders and members of the business development team to establish practice growth objectives and develop business development initiatives and budgets to support growth objectives.
Develops a deep understanding of the skillsets, client portfolio, and differentiators of the firm's Business Litigation Department, utilizing this understanding and knowledge in plan development and strategy execution.
Develops a deep understanding of the practice areas and individual attorneys in the Business Litigation Department; builds strong relationships with practice leaders and other partners to effectively act as a strategic and proactive advisor on business development.
Partners with the Client Experience team on efforts to further strengthen, deepen, and protect client relationships, including supporting client feedback programs, and leading the design and implementation of key client-specific business development and marketing initiatives.
Serves as a champion and enabler of the firm’s brand, partnering with our brand and content teams to ensure that marketing materials across all platforms are high-quality, client-centric, focused on emphasizing the firm’s strategic strengths and differentiators, and visually compelling.
Develops market visibility campaigns and initiatives, partnering with our marketing content, creative, PR and communications teams.
Drives business development training and “pitch prep” sessions for partners, and manages functional development of pitches, proposals, RFP responses, awards and rankings submissions, brand-awareness initiatives, thought leadership and all other aspects of marketing operations for the assigned practice department.
Identifies and executes on cross-selling opportunities.
Works with HR, communications, content and practice management teams, to ensure smooth and effective integration of new lateral partners.
Supervises and directs a high-performing team of approximately 10-20 business development professionals, including senior managers, managers, specialists, coordinators and assistants aligned to specific practice groups.
Ensures that all team member efforts are aligned to the firm’s vision and objectives, and that team members are committed to the highest levels of team-orientation, client service, and professional excellence.

Adept with MS Word, Excel and PPT; demonstrated understanding of and experience with diverse database and software solutions, including CRM, experience management and proposal automation systems.
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or JD preferred.
Minimum of eight (8) years of marketing and business development experience.
Strong strategic business development background, with demonstrated experience initiating and executing on successful business development initiatives.
Experience and demonstrated success managing and developing a team of 10 or more.

Compensation is dependent on several factors, such as position, location, education, training, and/or experience.
Hiring Salary Range:
- $215,000 - $235,000
