Job Description

Description

Associate General Counsel

Our team members advance our mission and exemplify excellence, compassion, teamwork, and purpose in all that they do. Indiana University Health is seeking individuals who embody these values to join our Legal Services team in the role of Associate General Counsel.

We are seeking a seasoned, collaborative, and practical employment law attorney to join IU Health's legal team as a trusted advisor to Human Resources and business partners across the organization. This is a dedicated employment law counseling role. The majority of the work is advisory rather than litigation focused, providing day-to-day legal guidance on employee relations, ADA accommodations, disability and fitness-for-duty matters, absence management, wage and hour law, ERISA and benefits, immigration-related employment questions, and select HR-related contracting needs. The legal team operates with a close-knit, roundtable culture built on collaborative, knowledge-sharing, and mutual trust. A successful hire will integrate quickly, build strong relationships with HR Business Partners across the system, and become a reliable, independent source of employment law counsel that the organization genuinely depends on.

Employment Law Practitioner: ADA, disability, leave, wage and hour, ERISA, employee relations, immigration - these are your daily areas, and you bring real depth and confidence to each of them.

Trusted Advisor: You give clear, practical, risk-informed guidance.

Collaborative and Team Oriented: This is a close-knit team of experienced attorneys who share cases, learn from each other, and operate with genuine mutual respect.

Independent and Self-Sufficient: You are organized, reliable, and deliver consistently without requiring oversight.

Strong Communicator: You explain complex legal matters clearly to HR partners and operational leaders who are not attorneys, and you do so in a way that leads to better decisions.

Practical Problem Solver: You balance legal risk with operational reality and provide counsel that is both sound and usable.

Relationship Builder: Your ability to build trust with HR Business Partners, Talent Acquisition, Benefits, and leadership teams is what makes this role successful.
