- Drafts, reviews, negotiates, and finalizes a high volume of construction contracts, drawing upon candidate’s extensive knowledge of all AIA contract forms, typical client positions, and their impact on Shawmut and its business goals and practices.
- Drafts, reviews, negotiates, and finalizes confidentiality agreements, settlement agreements, leases and other agreements.
- Assists with legal issues related to subcontracts.
- Provides advice on various legal and procedural issues including scope, schedule, notices, changes, non-performance, insurance and labor issues.
- Develops and maintains positive relationships and communication with Shawmut staff.
- Acts as a liaison for and fosters positive relationships with clients and clients’ attorneys.
- Manages affirmative and defensive lien issues as necessary to protect the company’s interests. Is familiar with lien statutes and practices in various jurisdictions.
- Develops training materials and provides company-wide training on contracts, processes, and other legal topics.
- Experience: A minimum of 2-5 years of Construction Industry Law experience.
- Education: JD, member of any state bar
- Extensive knowledge of construction principles, practices, procedures, means and methods.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Demonstrated initiative, follow through, resourcefulness, efficiency and attention to detail.
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to learn new software and applications.
- Ability to quickly learn organization structure and stakeholders.
- Ability to create a culture of inclusion and belonging by acting with courage, humility and curiosity; desire to learn about others and self-reflect.
