Job Description

Overview

The Houston, TX office of Lewis Brisbois, a full-service AmLaw 100 firm, is actively seeking an attorney to join its Bankruptcy & Insolvency Practice.

The ideal candidate will be admitted to practice in Texas and have at least four (4) years of experience:

 

  • Representing debtors, creditors and committees in Chapter 11 cases or any bankruptcy proceeding
  • Representing banks and other financial institutions in loan enforcement proceedings
  • Commercial litigation, involving breach of contract cases and related matters
  • Handling matters involving post-judgment enforcement, execution and lien foreclosure

 The attorneys of Lewis Brisbois' Bankruptcy and Insolvency Practice assist businesses and individuals in formulating and carrying out creative problem-solving strategies when they are faced with insolvency; either their own, or that of a customer or borrower. The Bankruptcy and Insolvency Department represents clients with diverse interests, including companies and individuals who are reorganizing, bankruptcy trustees, plan disbursing agents, lenders, landlords, and acquirers of assets from bankruptcy estates. We have represented clients in all aspects of contested matters and adversary proceedings, including fraudulent conveyances, preferences, relief from stay motions, non-dischargeability actions, trustee motions, and the entire range of litigation matters that arise in bankruptcy cases, including appeals.  In addition, we assist the firm's insurance clients in all insolvency-related matters. The Department includes two attorneys who currently serve as a Chapter 7 Panel Trustee and have served as Chapter 11 trustees in numerous bankruptcy cases.

 

Qualified candidates will be comfortable drafting and responding to discovery and initial pleadings, drafting, and arguing motions, as well as taking and defending depositions. Candidates must have strong writing and analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
