Corteva Agriscience is hiring a Litigation Counsel reporting to the Vice President, Deputy General Counsel, Chief of Litigation. This position will be responsible for providing legal and strategic advice and counsel to internal clients and legal colleagues on a range of issues related to litigation and risk management as well as managing outside counsel in litigation.
Primary Responsibilities - How will you help us Grow!
- Proactively and strategically manage all aspects of litigation as well as certain proceedings before arbitration tribunals and mediation.
- Strategically manage all aspects of litigation including motions practice, discovery and trial.
- In collaboration with the Commercial team, provide input on strategies for protecting the company’s interests including contracts, torts, environmental and employment.
- Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of Corteva’s process including e-discovery and other processes.
- Provide clear and actionable legal advice to a variety of stakeholders across the enterprise on a range of issues.
- Assess litigation risks and proactively develop and implement strategies to minimize exposure.
- Develop litigation budget and manage matters within budget.
- Prepare reports on status of litigation.
- Advise on company policies and strategies to protect our Company’s interests including staying abreast on applicable laws and regulations, educating clients through regular communications, trainings, and other appropriate methods.
- Participate in and influence decision-making processes with clients and stakeholders.
Experience and Education – What you'll bring to the table!
- JD from an ABA accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice in a state and be in good standing with no disciplinary record.
- Minimum of 5 years of litigation experience.
The ideal candidate will have:
Significant experience with all stages of litigation in court and arbitration including
- Expertise in e-discovery.
- As first chair in hearings, arbitrations and/or arguing motions.
- Writing and filing briefs, motions and other filings.
- Conducting fact investigations, taking and defending depositions, preparing discovery responses, managing document collection and negotiating protective orders and other related documents.
In Addition, Must Have
- Demonstrated ability to work independently to prioritize workload and priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to be self-sufficient and work with limited secretarial support.
- Excellent judgment and ability to quickly adapt in fast changing environment.
- Excellent people skills, positive attitude and demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex legal issues verbally and in writing in a clear and understandable manner to all levels of the organization.
- Excellent judgment in assessing and communicating legal risks while also understanding and working collaboratively within the business strategy.
- Impeccable integrity.
