As a member of the NMILC Senior Leadership Team, the Director of Community Engagement provides strategic leadership and guidance on NMILC's development and stakeholder engagement functions. In addition to strategy and management, the Director of Community Engagement will oversee major development events and hold and develop a portfolio of donors and prospects to solicit major gifts. They will also collaborate closely with the Interim Development Director, Communications Director, Program Manager of Pro Bono Engagement, Internships and Donor Relations, on overall strategy, marketing strategies, and execution related to donor and stakeholder events and communications. They will report to the Interim Development Director.
This position will also support the Economic Justice and Workforce Development programming at NMILC by developing and implementing engagement strategies to grow revenue and build relationships with current and prospective partners through events, education, and networking. The role is responsible for overseeing building economic justice programming, strong relationships with businesses, law firms, and key community stakeholders and facilitating major investments in NMILC's mission through development of strategic and aligned partnership, such as the development of an immigrant business ally program. They are also responsible for trainings, workshops and education events associated with EJ stakeholder engagement.
Responsibilities / Essential Functions:
Organizational & Strategic Leadership
• Embodies a deep understanding and commitment of the needs of New Mexico's immigrant community and the day-to-day work of NMILC staff, as well as an ability to share stories and accurate legal information with community partners, donors, and stakeholders.
• Demonstrates empathetic disposition and perseverance, maintains an optimistic and positive attitude, and conveys sensitivity to the needs of community partners, allies and supporters.
• Designs, documents and implements a comprehensive corporate/business ally program and workforce development initiatives that works in tandem with NMILC's development plan and funding.
• Works to follow up on key next steps by tracking organizational commitments and commitments made by partners by following up with key partners.
• Ensures key stakeholders and partners are recognized, receiving on-going and frequent communications, cultivated to enhance their relationship with NMILC.
• Attends internal and external stakeholder meetings, fairs, and community events.
• Builds relationships with existing and prospective corporate partners (such as banks, businesses and law firms).
• Identifies sponsorship opportunities that align with NMILC’s mission and works with staff to create engagement opportunities and initiatives.
Economic Justice, Workforce Development, and Business Ally Program Leadership
• Leads economic justice program strategy, planning, and fundraising efforts.
• Forges deep relationships with strategic workforce sectors, including early childhood education and care giving, affordable housing policy, renewable energy policy, supporting legal apprenticeship programs and potential Community Justice Worker programming as part of supporting a statewide legal planning.
• Develops and implements fundraising strategies for legal service provision and oversees service provision.
• Leads relationship building with businesses and develops immigrant business ally network and provides KYR training and related services.
• Explores supporting the statewide ecosystem for continuum of care initiative, including home-based child care and home health aide businesses.
• Leads efforts to research and develop strategy for an immigration business roundtable, with focus on care giving, health care, hospitality, housing and climate change.
Events
• Organizational liaison for NMILC's Anniversary Event and oversees the NMILC committee that executes the NMILC Anniversary Event with substantial support from the Pro Bono Engagement Manager and Interim Development Director.
• Supports volunteer appreciation events
Stewardship
• Serves in a leadership role on the development team.
• Supports 5 meaningful donor interactions per week and 2-3 donor meetings per month, talking to high level donors for their giving and progressing portfolio moves management.
• Stays abreast of trends in the field of philanthropy, donor relations, gift advising, and planned giving.
• Attends donor conferences and events on behalf of or with other development staff.
• Works with Interim Development Director to advance key development initiatives.
• Works as a key member of the development team.
• Works with Interim Development Director to create the NMILC Alumni Network and annual staff thank-a-thon, and develop a Professional Advisor's Council to help grow legacy giving program.
• Works with Interim Development Director to support staff for donor visits, when needed.
• Works with Interim Development Director to develop final reports for leadership and develop expertise in use of DonorSnap and development technology.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- JD degree with at least three (3) years of legal non-profit experience.
2. Proven ability to establish, cultivate and steward strong professional relationships with stakeholders to build lifelong partnerships.
3. Proven ability in providing effective, accurate and well-executed legal training and workshops to community members and professionals.
4. Strong interpersonal skills and enthusiasm for building strong professional relationships with businesses, schools, donors, volunteers, staff and general public.
5. Innovative, creative, results-oriented, self-motivated, able to manage multiple projects well, working both independently and as a team member.
6. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including ability to speak comfortably and compellingly with multiple stakeholders (businesses, donors, community partners) about the potential impact of investment and partnership.
7. Ability to deliver presentations in person and online to small and large groups.
8. Very strong organizational and time management skills
9. Strong sense of urgency and astute problem-solving abilities.
10. A team player that inspires collaboration and functions decisively; flexible and well organized
11. Ability to travel within New Mexico (approximately 20% of the work week).
12. Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and irregular hours and travel within state as needed.
13. Excellent computer skills and ability to utilize “Legal Server” donor database with ease.
14. Well-developed sense of humor and compassion; friendly, outgoing and collaborative.
Our Salary and Benefits -
This is a full-time position. Salary is competitive for our field and geographic area and is commensurate with experience. Salary range starting at $100,360
- 100% of Individual Employee Health Premium paid by NMILC for the Base Plan and 50% for dependents. Buy-up Plan also available.
- Access to a 401K plan and discretionary employer match up to 10% of base salary (determined each fiscal year based on funding projections);
- Optional Flexible Spending Account for pre-tax funds for medical and/or dependent care cost.
