POSITION SUMMARY
Performs diverse legally-related duties for supervising attorney, including preparation of documents, conducting various research projects as assigned by the Supervising Attorney, performs monitoring of GC and other trademarks and registrations, works with government agencies to obtain appropriate documentation for processing corporate documents and trademarks, processing of mail and telephone calls, preparing substantive correspondence or documents of a highly confidential nature. Requires knowledge of legal concepts and skills.

- Full - time hourly position with benefits
- Remuneration: Grade 5 ($22.67 - $34.01)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Assists supervising attorney in drafting, preparing, and monitoring reports, publications, special projects, and documents as requested.
• Performs monitoring of numerous trademarks and registrations.
• Prepares copyright registrations and licenses
• Prepares Travel Authorizations and Expense Reports for supervising attorney.
• Assists supervising attorney with information gathering, advanced legal research in library or databases, including citation checks, and perform special assignments. May include downloading and summarizing cases, applicable law, private rulings, proposed and current statutes and regulations.
• Conducts research at courts or government agencies.
• Maintains supervising attorneys’ calendar, correspondence and office files pertaining to the assignments being performed.
• Maintains calendar of activities, critical dates and related appointments, meetings, conferences, and court appearances of supervising attorneys related the areas of substantive law assigned to the employee.
• Acts as liaison with outside counsel and paralegals relating to assigned areas of specialty areas law.
• Handles telephone calls, answering inquiries and assisting in specialty area(s) (under attorney supervision).
• Researches and responds (under attorney supervision) to legal inquiries within expertise.
• Must be a member in regular standing of the Seventh-day Adventist Church
• Must maintain a regular and reliable attendance schedule
• Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s (BA/BS) degree or equivalent in paralegal studies, legal secretary, or related field required.
- A minimum of the knowledge, skills, and abilities generally acquired through four years of full-time, recent, relevant, legal secretarial experience acceptable to the OGC under direct supervision of an attorney.
- Certificate from American Bar Association (ABA) approved course preferred and may be considered to fulfill part of the experience requirement.
- A certificate or degree from a legal secretarial training course or paralegal course may also be considered to fulfill part of the experience requirement.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Well-developed knowledge of principles, policies and beliefs of the General Conference and the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
- Requires knowledge of up-to-date office procedures such as filing, telephone techniques, office equipment (including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and other computer software and related equipment), English language usage (grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc.) in written and oral forms, and the ability to work under pressure and with many interruptions.
- A high degree of accuracy is essential. Position requires absolute confidentiality at all times. Strong knowledge of legal terminology and procedures used in preparing legal documents required, as well as a knowledge of legal terminology and procedures pertaining to area(s) of law in which supervising attorney practices.
- Knowledge of legal research tools (ie. Westlaw.) and ability to use them preferred.
